Awareness campaign for the year 2013 is on its peak through
pamphlets/Leaflets, Walks, Banners, Holdings, Seminars,
Electronic Media as well as Print Media. TMA Chiniot doing all
necessary efforts on emergency basis for Dengue Campaign.
TMA Chiniot is the
main Tehsil Municipal Administration of
newly created District Chiniot. Chiniot is the
main city of the TMA Chiniot. The Tehsil is predominantly rural as
it has only 12 urban
Union Councils out of a total of 44 Union Councils. According to 1998 Population & Housing Census total
population of Chiniot is 965,124 including 172,522 Urban population. CO unit Headquarter, that is Chiniot town, has eight
Urban Union Councils.
Chiniot was raised to the level of Municipal
Committee in 1922. After the implementation of Punjab Local
Government Ordinance 2001, it was accorded the status of TMA.
Chiniot is situated on the left bank of river Chenab at a
distance of 30 KM from Faisalabad and is connected by 60 ft
wide mettled road. It is also connected with other major cities
like Lahore, Jhang and Sargodha by mettled road. Lahore is
at a distance of 140 Km, Jhang at 86 Km and Sargodha is at a
distance of 58 Km from
Chiniot.
Chiniot forms a very important part
of historical area of Chiniot. The history of Chiniot District is very
old. It is said that Alexander of Macedonia passed through
the district while going back to Greece. But first glimpse
of this district appeared in Tuzk-e-Babari written by Zaheer-ud-Din
Babar, the founder of the Mughal dynasty in India, in the
year 1526 A.D.
Public consultation
in official decision-making is rare and generally cosmetic.
